3D Idiot
2022
The project consists of two identical and symmetrical objects. They are made from two pages of Dostoevsky's novel "The Idiot". Each page is created using the origami technique and forms part of a larger composition.
Dostoevsky's entire novel was disassembled and reassembled into these two objects, which vaguely resemble the spread of the novel. The goal of this project is to demonstrate a new way of using printed literature as a medium for art and expression.
Additionally, the theme of prohibition is explored, within the context of psychoanalytic theory and the concept of the "forbidden structure". The idea is that a single element of the structure, before the prohibition, takes on new forms and multiplies after the prohibition. However, these elements are no longer able to achieve the original goal, leaving the whole structure incomplete.
All these changes occur in close connection with aggression. The transformed element, "marked with a ban", carries with it the acquired sharpness of angles as a reaction to its new "body". In this case, the body of the book has undergone a ban on recognition as an element of global culture in society. It has been cut and disassembled, but it still exists in a new capacity.
Each individual sheet of the book is now a text in 2D format. However, during the process of being prohibited, it becomes a 3D object that is part of a more complex structure. It is no longer just a book, but an art object where the text can still be read, although some parts are hidden.
