Video “Object 0_5”

Exhibition history
Elohovskiy Gallery, "Labyrinths of Consciousness," 2023, Moscow, Russia
The video was created using a method of random frame selection from a database of films. The selected frames were subsequently sorted by color, visual style, and thematic content.
The video constitutes a visual exploration of the Lacanian objet petit a. The editing process deliberately inserted a black screen after each new frame, generating an illusion of pulsating being—appearance and disappearance. In certain frames, a red circle appears: the object-cause of desire, as understood within Lacanian psychoanalytic theory.
This object takes an abstract form against the backdrop of realistic space. The circle represents the perfect form of desire; its red color signifies seduction. The Lacanian objet a is a libidinally charged object situated behind the subject’s fantasies about it. The fantasy functions as a veil concealing objet a, since a direct encounter with it would be unbearable.
